On this course, you will learn about the life of the historical Buddha, who lived some 2,500 years ago in India. You will study his life story through listening to lectures, having your knowledge tested in quizzes and engaging in assignments. For three of the assignments, you will have the opportunity for guided reading and engagement with Buddhist texts. You will earn about what happened after the Buddha dies, and how he comes to be venerated by the Buddhist tradition. In the final section of the course, you will learn about the ways the Buddha continues to be venerated in modern Buddhist countries around the world today.
