This course will introduce you to drawing an animal with pen and ink as we draw this beautiful Nyala head. Learn how to draw this head with fine markings then use watercolours to bring the drawing to life. When using pen and ink make sure your inks are water resistant or you could end up with an abstract painting when you add the watercolours. Also use decent watercolour paper ( I used Arches 144lb rough )so that the washes don\'t buckle the surface of your paper. Take your time with the drawing, I have broken it down into stages to allow you to evaluate your drawing as you proceed.The picture could live by itself as just a drawing if you wish, but the watercolours pull the picture together. You could also scan and print the drawing before you paint it then produce a limited edition series in which each print is individually  hand painted.I have made the actual photograph by my friend  Peter Haygarth, and my painting available to download for your assistance in completing this lovely study.I have also included two short demonstrations from other animal paintings produced with pastel pencils on pastelmat paper. These are a squirrel and a wolf and demonstrate the vibrancy of pastel pencils on coloured board.
