Bush-clearance inevitably causes casualties amongst the animals which inhabit the veld, as does the subsequent harvesting of a crop - in this case, sugar. Tiki was such a casualty - an orphaned genet kitten which was rescued and adopted into the home of Padraic O\'Callaghan and his wife Erica. Padraic was a section manager on a sugar estate in the Triangle area of the Zimbabwean lowveld and an enthusiastic amateur photographer. The O\'Callaghans were not entirely strangers to the problems of rearing waifs and strays from the wild, and, as their story demonstrates, they were able to establish with Tiki an entrancing bond of affection and trust. From upwards of 150 photographs of Tiki taken as she grew to maturity, the publishers have selected and captioned over 50 to illustrate the charm of this fascinating little creature. Tiki\'s rearing was so conducted that when she was able to fend for herself she was destined to be returned to the bush.
