Published in the 1890\'s, this is a complete six volume directory of the topography of England and Wales which aimed to be \"the most trustworthy and practically useful work of the kind.\" The text includes much fascinating detail on towns, parishes and localities as they were at the time. A total of 24 engravings of landscapes and historic landmarks are included along with 54 colour county maps and 14 double spread town plans. The final volume includes a fold out map. The set is bound in half leather with maroon boards and gilt titles to cover and spine. All volumes are tightly bound. The condition of each volume is good but they show signs of general wear. Volume 1 has some black marks to the spine. Internally, across the set, there is some foxing but the pages are generally clean and bright. The tissue guard to one illustration has a piece missing and the fold out map is torn.
