Lettres de Madame de Sevigne
Nineteenth century (1876) publication of the letters of Madame de Sevigne in 6 volumes. Marie de Rabutin-Chantal, Marquise de Sevigne (1626-1696), was a prolific letter-writer. Her letters, remarkable for their wit and vividness, cast a fascinating light on French society during the seventeenth century. NOTE: the text is in French. All six volumes are half bound in tan leather with gilt lettering and fleur-de-lys motifs to the spine. The boards are patterned, as are the endpapers and the edges of each page. A number sport marks to the spine, particularly 3 and 6. Volume 5 has some fine scratches to the front cover. The corners of all are bumped and the edges of the boards chipped. However, they remain in good condition for their age. Internally the only issues are to volume 3, which has a loose page and some creasing to the top left hand corner of some pages and volume 6 which is stained at the top of the pages. Some of this has spilt over slightly onto the pages at the beginning of the book. Generally, all 6 volumes are in good condition internally with tight binding.
