A Place in the Sun [First edition, 1962]
Hardback with gold titles on red boards. Published by Hutchinson, first edition, 1962. Stephen McKenna (1888-1967) wrote over forty novels, mostly set among the English upper classes, and several biographical works. ‘A Place in the Sun’ was his last novel. After an unhappy childhood, a failed marriage and a fizzled-out affair with a banker, Camilla Wrensted is lonely, hard and bitter. She is now almost forty, but still a very attractive woman. It is her search for a place in the sun that makes her answer an advertisement from Godfrey Mardayle, the middle-aged owner of Three Shires Hall, who is looking for an assistant. Two very different personalities meet ... Hardback, no dust jacket. Inscription dated February 1962 on front endpaper, and foxing throughout, but binding is tight.
