A hardback in good condition. Brown cloth boards with some corner bumping and edgewear. There is some minor chipping to the top and bottom of the spine. Title in gold lettering on the front board and spine, which is sun-faded. The pages are clean. There is some cracking to the rear hinge (see photograph). The pages are generally tight.  There are inscriptions to previous owners including a comment - \'to help you become a good teacher!\' The Third Edition, dated 1881, of this reference book and manual on the theory and practice of teaching. It is based upon the cyclopaedia of education by Kiddle and Schem.
