Two volume set in dark red, half leather, library binding.  Both volumes show signs of wear, corners are lightly bumped and there is some fading in parts, also the spines are discoloured, a part of the top of the spine on volume 1 is missing.  Library numbers are embossed on the spine as well as written in white ink.  There are the usual library stamps inside and names of previous owners.  Internally the books are clean, bright and tightly bound.  Inside volume 1 there is a facsimile of a hand-written letter by Samuel Johnson addressed to his wife.  Volume 1 covers Oct  30, 1731 - Dec 21, 1776, and volume 2 covers Jan 15, 1777 - Dec 18, 1784.
