Used hard back book with brown embossed boards and gilt lettering.  Rare 1851 edition of Carpenter\'s prize essay on the use and abuse of alcoholic liquors.  This book is in very good condition commensurate with age.  Pages yellowing, spine and corners bumped, with a small dirty or damp mark on the back inside boards.  There is a sticker on the inside front board indicating the book was owned by Roundthorn (Oldham) Library and Mutual Improvement Society 1853 showing membership rules.  The book is considered culturally important and was dedicated to Prince Albert \'as an expression of the author\'s admiration of His Royal Highness\'s endeavours to elevate the social conditions of his adopted country.......\'
