SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR, FIRST EDITION SECOND IMPRESSION: Navy blue cloth cover with gilt titles and border to the front cover and the spine.  The condition of the cover is not good, the corners are bumped, both ends of the spine are damaged and the hinges are loose in places. The front hinge is loose internally but still connected.  On the fep the author has inscribed a dedication and dated and signed it.  The date is 1924.  Further into the book a name plate has been tipped, the same name as in the dedication.  There is some foxing to the first and last few pages.  The book is illustrated throughout with monochrome photographs one page of which is loose.  The author William Le Queux (1864 - 1927) was a prolific author of mystery/thriller books.  The book was published in November 1923 by Nash and Grayson.
