Written in 1887 and first published in 1888, this small volume is written by local resident Richard Cookson, who writes in the preface: \"Having a liking for collecting information and imparting the same, it seemed to me that I might gratify my scribbling propensity and at the same time render a little service to my native place, especially to the young and rising generation, by noting down and putting into print what I have culled from various sources, and adding some of my own observations and reflections thereon.\" This book covers everything from old customs, taxation, popular pet names, local landmarks, local government, football and commerce, all of which is indexed in the back. The top quarter of the book\'s spine is torn as pictured and the cover feels slightly loose; however, all pages are intact and attached.
