Hardback with black leather boards and titles in gilt and decoration to spine, in very good minus condition. Front board is a little loose, rear board has become detached. Bumping to corners. Spine has red rot as do the corners and top edge of rear board. Text block is still secure, as binding is tight. Textblock edges are gilded and book has marbled endpapers. Some foxing throughout. Previous owner\'s armorial bookplate pasted in. Over one hundred black and white illustrations by F. G. Kitton \"and other artists\" throughout volume, including frontispiece. Frontispiece protected by tissue guard. Index, chiefly of names, at the end.
