This is a seventeenth edition and has an owner\'s inscription from 1882 on the first page. This copy is translated from geman by Thomas Holcroft. It also contains \'One hundred Physiognomical rules\' taken from a posthumus work by Lavater, and a \'Memoir of the Author\'. This book is illustrated with up to four hundred profiles. The book cover is a dark cloth with impressed design and faded gold gilded titles on the spine, yet the cover is also quite worn and grubby and the page with the author\'s portrait is loose but still present. Finally, the conditions internally are in relatively good condition with minimal staining and the cover board\'s corners are bent slightly inwards from shelf-wear.
