T\'Yorksher Lingo... a dickshonary ov gooid owd Tykes\' words
T\'Yorkshire Lingo by Joseph Baron was a celebrated volume in its day, and now very rare. It was a re-edited from of his \'Lankisher Dickshunary\', which in turn derived from his \'Blegburn Dickshunary\'. Baron, (1859-1924) was a well-known Blackburn writer, journalist and dialect poet. Other books include \'Ribble-land: its Scenery, History and Legendary Lore\' and \'James Sharples, Blacksmith and Artist\'. No copy of \'T\'Yorksher Lingo\' is listed in the British Library, and Leeds University Brotherton Library has one of the few known copies. One other edition is known: this, too is very rare and collectable. This copy is undated; evidence of his life suggest a date around 1900. It is in good condition, with little wear to spine and corners, and titling and decoration on front cover still relatively intact. The text block is beginning to come loose from the covers and there are some hand-written notes of further dialect words on blank page at end of text.
