It is amazing that the voice or this modern John the Baptist was not recognized in the English-speaking world until almost a hundred years after his death in 1855. When Kierkegaard was finally translated, first into German and French, then English, he emerged from the subconscious of an era, and his thinking had a stunning impact. Here were the ideas which a disillusioned world needed in order to understand what was going on in the 20th century - and here was a call to every single individual to look deeper and return home to himself and face his Redeemer.
