The editors state “the book contains an excellent coverage of social and economic developments” and deals with early as well as modern history of East Africa. A number of contributors have been overseen by the editors but the various writers have been free to express themselves. The book was written for the Historical Association of Kenya to encourage and stimulate research. The introduction sums up “everyone, not just the historian, needs to know the history of his or her country and to take pride in what was achieved by the ancestors”.
