Calf binding on spine with the title written in ink. Decorated boards. This binding has protected the pamphlet very well as it is in good condition with only age related marks throughout. The titlepage has the name James Gauden or Gordon written in ink. The reverse of the titlepage is stamped B.N.C. Oxford with F Madan and is therefore ex-library. Also, inked date 15.9.22. Two initials also on this page R.H. Two small pencil notes to the modern endpapers. Page 32 numbered as page 30. Finis with decorated woodcut.The full title reads-The Love of Truth and Peace. A Sermon preached before the Honovrable Hovse of Commons assembled in Parliament Novemb. 29. 1640. By John Gauden, Bachelor in Divinty. To quote from Wikepedia-He was born at Mayland, Essex, where his father, also named John Gauden, was vicar of the parish, and educated at Bury St Edmunds school and at St John\'s College, Cambridge, where he graduated B.A. 1623, M.A. 1626. By his matriculation at Michaelmas 1619, the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography gives him a birth year 1599/1600. His sympathies were at first with the parliamentary party. He was chaplain to Robert Rich, 2nd Earl of Warwick, and preached before the House of Commons in 1640.
