Cowper, Illustrated by a Series of Views in, or near The Park of Weston Underwood
1804 edition. Hardback. Very Good Indeed. 10cm by 17cm. James Storer and John Greig engravers. The rare edition of this scarce collection of plates looking at the places the poet William Cowper would have seen in his life, illustrated by James Storer and John Greig. This work is a collection of places showing the places that the poet William Cowper would have frequented. Including his summer house, Weston House, a rustic bridge, the elms, and more. William Cowper was a popular English poet who helped initiate the Romantic movement, with his descriptions of life in the English countryside. After a stint of being institutionalised for insanity, Cowper recovered and began focusing on writing religious works. He was strongly against slavery, using his poems to try and support the Abolitionist campaign. Illustrated with twelve plates. Externally, generally smart. Light scuffs to the leather spine. A little edge wear. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with only the occasional mark. Very Good Indeed
