The beautiful years: A tale of Childhood (Leopold Classic)
Reprint of 1921 copy. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. This work was reproduced from the original artefact, and remains as true to the original work as possible being in the Leopold Classics Library. The Beautiful Years”, the first of the four novels which make up Henry Williamson’s “The Flax of Dream” sequence, deals with the childhood of Williamson’s protagonist, Willie Maddison, growing up in a small English village during the early years of the twentieth century. We are never told the exact location of Willie’s village, but the dialect used by the local people strongly suggests the West Country. Willie, whose mother died in childbirth, is the only child of John Maddison, a London barrister who has given up the law to live on his small country estate, an estate made much smaller by the improvidence of John’s own father who squandered much of the family fortune.
