W J Wainwright a short account of his life and character together with addresses
This 1935 book is a presentation copy from the artist’s son as signed on the free front endpaper. A short account of his life, character, addresses given by him, and, illustrated by examples of his work some being colour plates. William John Wainwright PRBSA (1855–1931) was a painter who spent most of his life in Birmingham. Wainwright trained at the Birmingham School of Art under the headship of Edward R. Taylor, and started his career as an apprentice at the stained-glass firm Hardman & Co. In 1879, Wainwright founded the Birmingham Art Circle with four other artists including Walter Langley. Photographs of our book are shown. It is generally in good order with clear pages despite its age; slight water mark of about 4cm on the back boarding. First edition.
