This is a first edition with illustration and wrapper designed by Anne Bullen, published in 1947. It is the second book published by the author. The book is in good condition with yellow boards that have slight shelf wear to edges. The top and bottom of the spine are slightly worn. There is some foxing to the edges of the pages and some shelf wear. The bottom edge of the text block is untrimmed. The front and back end papers are slightly discoloured. The back pastedown has a stamp from \'The Times Book Club\'. It has the original dusk jacket in a protective cover. The corners and end of the spine are bumped and chipped. Selefwer to edges, with discoloration on the folds. There is a 5mm tear at the bottom front edge and spotting and discolouration of the back cover. It is unclipped [priced 8s 6d net].
