Condition:Marbled boards with quarter leather binding and corner caps. Gilt lettering to spine. Some losses (see photograph). Ex-libris (University of Reading), hence usual stamps. Split along spine between front paste-down and title page in both vols.Some browning and foxing to text commensurate with age, but overall clear and readable. Bookplate in each Volume \"Ex Libris H Clive Barnard & Coll. AEn. Nas apud Oxon\" Barnard was a well-known late- Victorian educational historian.Vol 1:, 491 pp; vol II, 502pp + 2 folding plates.
