An in-depth introduction to the life and work of Dutch master Frans Hals the Elder, a highly acclaimed portrait painter in the Golden Age.Hals lived and worked in Haarlem and was famous for his loose painterly brushwork, helping introduce this lively style of painting into Dutch art.He is recognised for his significant contribution to the evolution of 17th Century group portraiture.Davies contributes imaginative insights into character while exploring the curious biographical and artistic absences of Hals’ timeline.
