Christopher John Penrice Booker (born 1937) is a British journalist and author. In 1961, he was one of the founders of the satirical magazine Private Eye, and has contributed to it since then. He has been a columnist for The Sunday Telegraph since 1990. He has taken a stance which runs counter to the scientific consensus on a number of issues, including global warming, the link between passive smoking and cancer, and the dangers posed by asbestos. This original and ambitious book deals with the revolution which in the past fifteen years has transformed out lives - marked by phenomena such as the Angry Young Men, the satire craze, the cult of President Kennedy, the Profumo affair, the Beatles and the publicity conscious style of Harold Wilson\'s Government. In his analysis Mr. Booker goes perhaps further than any previous writer in exploring the psychology behind such crazes and fashions, and the reality underlying such elusive phrases as \"the mood of the age\'. Combining this with a hundred or so people who have shaped \'New England\' - playwrights, politicians, pop singers, journalists, film directors, critics - he boldly weaves apparently disparate events and phenomena into a coherent and lucid pattern. Very good condition, though there is slight foxing to the edges of the pages, and the cover is slightly shelf worn, with a small tear at the top of the spine.
