A Short History of the XII Royal Lancers 1945-1960 by R Brockbank and R.M. CollinsPat Stewart\'s excellent history of the Regiment ends on 2 May 1945 when the German Armies in Italy surrendered. This short book records the history of the Regiment duringthe last fifteen years of its existence before the amalgamation with the 9th Queens Royal Lancers in 1960.Nearly fifty years have elapsed since the war ended. The Regimental Journals are, therefore, the main sources for this history with a few extant war diaries and records inGovernment archives to confirm dates and actions. Much of the time was spent by the Regiment on garrison duties but it had the luck to serve in three operational stations-Palestine, Malaya and Cyprus. We have tried to embellish the dry facts available with insights into the sporting life ofthe Regiment and other events.
