The author, Peter Lloyd Jeffcock, public schoolboy, war-time R.A.F. officer, ex-estate manager, dreamed of giving a home, in the fullest sense of the word, to deprived children. Single-handed, he brought up a family of twelve; six boys and six girls shopping and cooking for them, doing the housework, making the girl\'s clothes, sending them to school, and facing the problems that beset any family. With the children growing older and settling into lives of their own, some of them married, Lloyd-Jeffcock felt the publication of his story would provide added incentive to both the public and the authorities to find new homes for the many children in need.
