PM Turquoise: The Ugly Duckling (PM Traditional Tales and Plays) Levels 17, 18 x 6
Hans Christian Andersen’s first fairy story was published in 1835 and his last in 1872. This story is in part an allegory of Andersen’s own life, as in youth he was a poverty-stricken misfit, mocked at by his school fellows. The mute swans in the illustrations breed in Denmark, and the Danish climate shapes this tale. Set in Denmark, circa late 19th century. Turquoise level titles develop children’s understanding of topics with clusters of books on related subjects. High-interest themes such as danger, courage, kindness, bullying and anger are introduced. Available for Levels 15-24, PM Traditional Tales and Plays retell classic tales in a simplified language and form that children can understand. Teachers use the tales in guided reading sessions and children can later read them with confidence and understanding. Parts are colour-coded for easy recognition. #pm19-offer
