Aesop, the teller of fables, was born in Thrace (Northern Greece) in the 6th century BC. The illustrator has moved the story closer to the present day. Set in the Balkans in the 18th century. Purple level titles introduce a variety of topics to promote reading for pleasure and offer plenty of opportunities to look at rhyme and rhythm within words to build fluency and phrasing. Available for Levels 15–24, PM Traditional Tales and Plays retell classic tales in a simplified language and form that children can understand.
