What is it used for?nCleansing and deodorising weeping wounds.nHow does it work?nPermitabs solution tablets contain the active ingredient potassium permanganate, which is an astringent and antiseptic.nPotassium permanganate is used for weeping, exuding or for blistered skin that requires drying up. It is only used when all other forms of antibacterial agents have been tried.nPermitabs solution tablets need to be dissolved in water, to make a potassium permanganate solution.nHow do I use it?nThis medicine is for external use only.nAvoid contact with eyes, mouth or lining of the nose.nIt is important to follow the instructions provided with this preparation. You will need a container, such as a washing up bowl to make up the solution of potassium permanganate.nOne Permitabs solution tablet should be dissolved in four litres of water to produce a 0.01% (1 in 10 000) solution of potassium permanganate. The affected area(s) should then be soaked in the solution for ten minutes.nThe used solution should be disposed of in the toilet, to prevent it staining the sink or bath.nDo not use any soap or detergent with this preparation as it will react with the potassium permanganate.nPotassium permanganate can stain floor surfaces, baths, clothing, skin and nails.nWarning!nPermitabs solution tablets must be diluted to the correct concentration, as concentrated solutions of potassium permanganate can burn the skin. Gloves should be worn where handling the tablets or solution.nThis preparation can stain floor surfaces, baths, clothing, skin and nails.nNot to be used innKnown sensitivity or allergy to any ingredient.nThis medicine should not be used if you are allergic to any of its ingredients. Always inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, before using any medicine.nThere is no safety information available on the use of this medicine in pregnancy and breastfeeding. However, it has been widely used for many years without ill consequence.
