ABOUT CLIC SARGENT Cancer is shocking, overwhelming, isolating... and completely unfair. Especially when you’re young. It takes over your life. Treatment is gruelling and your ambitions and dreams – education, relationships, career, travel – suddenly seem very far away. Clic Sargent gets that. That’s why CLIC Sargent fights tirelessly to stop cancer from destroying young lives. Clic Sargent provides grants and free accommodation close to the hospital to help with spiralling costs. Our care teams are on hand to help families with everything from getting benefits to treatment closer to home. And Clic Sargent lobby the government to make sure they get the support they’re entitled to. Clic Sargent are here to make sure young cancer patients can focus on getting their lives back on track. And Clic Sargent knows everyone is different, so work hard to make sure our support is given how each child and young person needs it most. The history In 2005, two charities joined forces to better help children and young people with cancer, and their families. Sargent Cancer Care for Children, founded in 1968 by Sylvia Darley OBE as a lasting memory to the late Sir Malcolm Sargent. CLIC (Cancer and Leukaemia in Childhood), founded in 1976 in the south west by Bob Woodward OBE following the diagnosis of his young son Robert with cancer. Sadly, Robert died in 1977 aged 11, and Bob went on to dedicate his life to charity work. Together, they are CLIC Sargent – young lives against cancer. The vision  Everyone under 25 with cancer, and their families, will get the support and help they need during their cancer treatment and beyond, including bereaved families living with emotional pain.  Clic Sargent wants them to thrive, not just survive, and for everyone to join in that mission.  The promise  When cancer strikes young lives CLIC Sargent helps families limit the damage cancer causes beyond their health.  Clic Sargent will fight tirelessly for children and young people with cancer, often when they feel they can’t. They do this individually, locally and nationally, so that they can focus on the important things, like getting well.  The values  Clic Sargent values are at the heart of how they act as an organisation and who Clic Sargent are.  WE ARE BRAVE  WE ARE CONFIDENT  WE HAVE INTEGRITY  WE ARE ONE TEAM  We need to be brave and confident with integrity – to make sure there is evidence behind what Clic Sargent is saying. We need to work collaboratively as a team – in the charity, with families, and with partner organisations. Together with their supporters, we can limit the damage cancer causes for children and young people.
