Vitamin D3 is often referred to as the sunshine supplement as it is the type of Vitamin D that is synthesised in the skin via exposure to sunlight. Vitamin D3 has several important functions one of these being aiding in themaintenance of bones and teeth as it helps to maintain the amount of Calcium and Phosphate in the body. One in five adults have been reported to be deficient in Vitamin D and the department of health recommends that all adults should consider taking a vitamin D supplement, especially those whose skin has little exposure to the sun, or who always cover their skin to go outside. Previous department of health advice that those in high risk groups, including all pregnant or breast feeding women and all people over sixty five, should take a daily D3 supplement still stands.
