Jackie Moggridge Crystal Sweetheart Brooch
Inspired by a true pioneer of women\'s rights, Jackie Moggridge was the only woman training at Witney as a commercial pilot when war broke out. Rejected by the RAF because she was female, she joined the WAAF as a radar operator. In 1940, age 20, she was accepted to fly in the ATA. During the war she ferried 1, 438 planes to the waiting RAF pilots, flying 82 different types and sometimes five planes a day! She was awarded the King\'s Commendation for Valuable Services in the Air, the Queen\'s Coronation medal and the Jean Lennox Bird trophy by the WPA for furthering the cause of women in aviation, flying over 501 Spitfires in her lifetime with her last flight being at the age of 74. Her greatest wish was to inspire girls to fly and her love of Spitfires and joy of flying lives on. All profits from this wonderful Jackie Moggridge crystal sweetheart brooch benefit the considerable work of The Royal British Legion in supporting the Armed Forces community.
