This watch is inspired by the ‘Dirty Dozen’ collection of watches worn by Armed Forces personnel in WWII, featuring a classic black dial, Arabic numerals, hour and minute hands and a canvas strap. The Dirty Dozen is a 1967 academy award-winning movie, depicting the misadventures of 12 fictional soldiers during the Second World War. But the name the ‘Dirty Dozen’ was also given to a group of 12 watches worn by those who actually fought in WWII, specifically, British soldiers. Faced with a raging World War II, the British Ministry of Defense (Mo D) commissioned a new type of wristwatch to best assist soldiers during their missions. Compared to the trench watches formerly used in the First World War, these newly developed pieces really had to up the ante both visually and functionally. They consulted twelve Swiss watch brands to entrust them with this vital task – nothing was left to chance; after all, the correct functioning (or non-functioning) of a watch could mean the difference between life and death for soldiers in combat! Hence, twelve different branded watches were made for this purpose. Commander Alan Brooks was considered the mastermind behind the development of the “perfect soldier’s watch,” and he specified multiple characteristics, including an easy to read black and white dial layout. The Dirty Dozen have become one of the most collectible set of watches, particularly (but not exclusively) by British collectors.
