Commonly called Cotton Palms because of their wisps of cotton-like strands that fall from each leaf, they provide a wonderful spectacle in any setting. Despite being palms, they do need a lot of water in summer when growing, as their new leaves emerge from the centre of the trunk. Cut old leaves off at trunk as they die, and your palm tree trunk will form. Semi-hardy down to -5°C, so provide winter protection or move potted palms to shelter. Supplied as a 75-90cm tall triple stemmed plant in a 20cm pot, with short trunk. Cut old leaves back as they die, to form the trunk.
