Crafted from solid foundry bronze using the ancient method of lost wax casting, the design is finished by the art of patination where acids are applied to the surface of the bronze and heat is applied to create a deep rich brown patina. The bird and foliage of this piece have been delicately hand painted with protective special wax to protect the colour and bronze for years to come. Inspired by his home town Stoke-on-Trent, artist and sculptor Michael Simpson produces detailed and diverse pieces, often working from his own drawings, photographs and observations of his subjects. Using mostly wax due to the versatility and freedom it offers his sculptors.
