Azithromycin is an antibiotic that is used to treat both Gonorrhoea and Chlamydia.  It involves taking a one of dose of two tablets.  The new updated dose for the treatment of chlamydia by NICE with Azithromycin is 1g on day one, followed by 500mg on day two and day three. A total of FOUR tablets over 3 days. Azithromycin is particularly effective because it remains in the system for long periods of time preventing recolonisation of the bacteria that causes chlamydia. Azithromycin tablets are extremely effective because they attack the bacteria directly and remove the proteins necessary for them to survive.   The bacteria will die off naturally and because it is now weakened it can be destroyed by the body\'s own immune system.
