Private tour to Kronstadt: city of Russian naval and military glory
The town of Kronstadt is situated on the small island of Kotlin in the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland, 48 km west of Saint Petersburg. It was founded by Peter the Great in 1704 as a maritime fortress and naval base. The name \"Kronstadt\" in German means \"Crown City\". We will start exploring the place with the city-tour, making stops nearby the Vladimir Cathedral , the Italian Palace and the Peter’s Dry Dock construction. Then we will visit the Naval Cathedral of Saint Nicholas built in 1903–1913 as the main church of the Russian Navy and dedicated to all fallen seamen. The cathedral was reconstructed and reconsecrated on 30 May 2013, by patriarch Kirill. The Kronstadt Sea Fortress used to be considered the most fortified port in the world. Formerly, there were 42 such forts, situated in line between the southern and northern shores of the Gulf of Finland. We will reach one of them during our boat –tour.
