The Newatt floating pond heater is designed to stop ponds freezing over completely thus allowing an essential exchange of gasses in the pond during hard frosts. Essentially fish need incoming oxygen to breathe, but also harmful Co2 needs to escape, both are vital for a healthy pond. This floating pond heater contains ceramic heating element within an plastic coated aluminium shell, resin sealed to ensure a permanent and total watertight seal. The element is secured beneath the floating \'cap\' and gently heats the water below just enough to rise and stop a portion of the pond freezing over. The aim of a pond heater is not to heat the entire pond, as this would potentially disrupt the fishes natural winter cycle, but to stop just enough freezing over to allow a good exchange of Co2 to Oxygen. As Newatt are a leader in the supply of Aquarium Heaters, they have been able to draw on their experience and include some proven technologies in their pond heater, such as thermal overload protection, durable polymer lining and a virtually unbreakable (thermal plastic) heater element.
