*What is NitrateJ*Nitrite is oxidised into Nitrate (chemical symbol NO3) by nitrobacter filtration bacteria. Excessive levels of nitrate in an aquarium are responsible for poor fish colouration lethargy a failure to breed and excessive algae growth.
