The Designer Founded by Parisian goldsmith Jacques Hobe in 1887, the HOBE brand did not become popular until the 1920\'s when his son William worked in New York for Broadway producer Florence Ziegfeld. It was Ziegfeld that used many of HOBES creations calling them costume jewellery. It was in 1927 that the American branch of HOBE jewellery was officially established producing costume jewellery right up to the 1950\'s and eventually opening a showrooms in Los Angeles. It was here where notables such as Bette Davis, Carole Lombard, Barbara Stanwyck and Ava Gardner were known to were known to wear many of William Hobes meticulous creations with many of his piece custom produced or sold in exclusive boutiques and leading department stores.
