This beautifully crafted Sheesham wood Solitaire game comes complete with set of 32 glass marbles (plus 1 spare) in drawstring pouch and game instructions. (note fabric varies as each one is individual). Sheesham is a hardwood with a rich, fine grain, often referred to as Indian Rosewood and is native to the Indian subcontinent. It is becoming increasingly popular in the UK as an affordable and sustainable alternative to traditional hardwoods. This game is crafted by fairly paid artisans in the small town of Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. Imran started work as a daily wage worker, after some years of hard work and dedication he was able to set up his own workshop. He now trains unskilled artisans and provides them with employment. Twelve years ago his workshop was inaugurated by a visiting team from Shared Earth. Today his small business creates a range of lovely handcrafted Sheesham products. The Solitaire board is first made using a turning machine, then the slots for placing the glass marbles in are carefully made using a hand drill. The entire finishing of the board is also completed by hand. This Solitaire set makes a stylish gift for the coffee table, study or library.
