In 1961, Dingač was the first place in Croatia to be awarded a Protected Geographical Origin. The vineyards are in sight of the island of Mljet, and beyond the Adriatic stretches away to Italy. The native grape, Plavac Mali, has been producing the best wine here for centuries. It was so sought-after that it made its way to Puglia and established as Primitivo, and then to California as Zinfandel. Cherry, blackberry and blueberry aromas are lent complexity by suggestions of mediterranean herbs - oregano, basil and mint. In the mouth, it is full-bodied, silky and succulent, with rounded tannins and flavours of plums, dark chocolate, carob and cookies, with smoky tobacco and spice on the long finish.
