How it works Beta-glucans are naturally occurring polysaccharides which are found in the cell wall of fungi and yeasts. Viruses are surrounded by spikes which are able to penetrate human cells. Once a virus has invaded a cell it hijacks it, using it as a host whilst it multiplies in number before moving on to cause more damage. Elderberry works by coating the spikes on a virus so that it’s no longer able to penetrate human cells. The immobilized virus can then be ingested by immune cells such as neutrophils, particularly those that have been primed for activity from previously coming into contact with beta glucans.
