The Gloster Meteor was the first British jet fighter and the Allis' only jet aircraft to achieve combat operations during the Second World War. The Meteor's development was heavily reliant on its ground-breaking turbojet engines. The Gloster Meteor FR.9 was based on the F.8 fighter version of the aircraft and replaced Spitfires and Mosquitos in this role. The extended nose housed a Williamson F.24 camera, which could be positioned to fire either forward, port of starboard facing.
