HISTORY: The Oshkosh M1070 is a US Army Tank Transporter Tractor that pairs with the DRS Technologies M1000 Trailer primarily to transport Abrams tanks and other heavy equipment. The M1070 has space for a driver and up to 4 passengers. It is powered by a Detroit Diesel 8V-92TA 12.06 litre diesel engine. The M1000 trailer has 40 wheels across 5 axles and can carry a payload of 63,560kg or up to 80,000kg at reduced speed. Both M1070 and M1000 are air transportable by C-5 Galaxy or C-17 Globemaster III aircraft. The M1A2 Abrams is the standard battle tank of the US Forces and first entered service in 1978 as the M1. The M1A2 being introduced in 1992 as an M1 with system enhancements keeping this AFV as a state of the art weapons system. The M1A2's main armament is the 120mm M256 smoothbore gun with a 7.62mm M240 machine gun mounted coaxially on its right. Crammed with technical equipment, the M1A2 is equipped with an independent stabilised day and night vision device with 360 degree view, automatic sector scanning, automatic target cueing of the gunner's sight and back up fire control. As a result of vulnerability of the M1A2 in urban fighting both SEP (System Enhancement Package) and TUSK (Tank Urban Survival Kit) modifications were made. These included upgraded 3rd generation depleted uranium armour components, improved front and side armour with ERA, Common Remotely Operated Weapons Station as standard (including a 2nd coaxial 12.7mm M2HB machine gun above the main gun), upgraded transmission and infantry-tank phone as standard. The combat effectiveness of the M1A2 has been proven in both Kuwait and Iraq conflicts where it dominated the battlefield. They've also been sold to Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Australia.
