The Atlantic Series Staunton chess pieces take on a contemporary modern feel with this black and natural lacquered edition. All of the pieces are turned from high grade boxwood. The black pieces are finished in a black lacquer that has been polished to a deep shine. In order to preserve continuity within the set the white pieces are also gloss lacquered with a polished clear coat. These fine chess pieces are double weighted and generously felted on their bases. The gloss lacquering doesn\'t detract from any of the fine detailing of the pieces and the extremes in tone give excellent contrast on the chess board. The knight is robust enough to endure many years in the battlefield while retaining some of his smiling character and presence. The neat \'tucked in\' ears allow for plenty of chess playing without fear of damaging the ornamental appeal of a brilliant chess piece.
