This grand and eye catching Calathea is also known as the Pin Stripe plant. The glossy large dark leaves have a purple-red underside with striking stripes across the top too. Each stem and leaf can grow up to 60cm tall! Perfect for a centre piece or exotic display. It will be happy in a warm room or conservatory, kept away from cold draughts and radiators with a temperature above 16C (60F), ideally between 18C (65F) to 24C (75F). Keep out of direct sunlight and allow it to get some shade. Water with tepid rainwater if possible, and water regularly from Spring to Autumn. Allow the pot to drain well after each watering. In the winter months reduce the watering down but do not allow the soil to completely dry out. Feed regularly during its active growing months between March and September. The Calathea Sanderiana enjoys a humid atmosphere so place on top of pebbles and water. As the water evaporates this will create the humidity the plant enjoys.
