A 3 litre outer \'moat\' has six 2.8cm (1) watering spikes which penetrate below the surface, delivering water and liquid feed direct to the roots at a rate that the plant is better able to absorb, minimising wastage (it typically takes 3-6 hours for the water reservoir to drain fully).
