The apples are of medium size in an orange-red colour, which becomes carmine mottled over a deep yellow background. The flesh is very aromatic, fine-grained, crisp and very juicy. \'Cox\'s Orange Pippin\' is not self-fertile so for the heaviest crops it is best grown with another variety such as \'Braeburn\'.
