BAFTA-winner Philip Mackie\'s 1982 murder mystery was one of Channel 4\'s earliest commissioned dramas. Starring Jonathan Pryce and Cherie Lunghi. A smart and absorbing mystery based on the French novel by Hubert Moteilhet.  Vera\'s (Carmen Du Sautoy) married to university professor Paul (Pinkas Braun) whose first wife and child died under suspicious circumstances. While the insurance company is investigating suspicions that Vera may have had something to do with their deaths, Paul is making a new will to make his new wife the beneficiary to his vast fortune.  Watching closely is Paul\'s loyal assistant Christian (Jonathan Pryce) who teams up with free-spirited Beatrice Manceau (Cherie Lunghi). Things go sour in the Canova household when Vera accuses a trusted secretary of stealing jewellery, who ends up committing suicide. Is Vera as calculating and manipulative as she seems?
